Working At Height Training

2 Days Course

Course introduction

This is a 2-day program specially designed for participants who is working at height. The program is aimed at helping participants understand the hazard and risk working at height and how to prevent from falling accident. Working at height has been an issue due to highest number of accident. According to SOCSO 2007 reports in “Person falling” there are 13417 reported cases with 228 reported fatalities. Knowledge, skill and attitude are very important in order to prevent falling accident with the used of proper safety hardness.

OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the hazards of working at height.
  • Recognized the risk on working at height.
  • Understand the working at height requirements and guideline.
  • Able to manage risk control to prevent fall.
  • Differentiate between working at height below and above 2 meters.
  • Able to understanding the technique of putting safety hardness.
  • Able to provide working at height rescue plan

ASSESSMENT

Participants are required to sit for theory and practical assessment, which includes multiple-choice questions and skill demonstrations

CERTIFICATION & VALIDITY

Having completed and passed the course, participants will be awarded with Certificate of Training. Without retraining, knowledge might be forgotten while skills may deteriorate rapidly when not being used / practiced. Therefore, yearly retraining is very much recommended.

SAFE WORK PROCEDURE WORKING AT HEIGHT IN MALAYSIA

The first step when conducting working at height activities is to able to conduct risk assessment and ensure it is planned, organised and conduct by competent person. Additionally, these activities should be according to the health and safety working at height regulations. 

WORKING AT HEIGHT TRAINING FOR CORPORATE, ORGANISATION / IN-HOUSE TRAINING

Falling from height is one of the major contribution to workplace injuries and fatalities. Therefore, as an employer there is a need to protect employees from falling from height. Employees who requires to work at height such as climbing ladder and working at flat roof are susceptible to dangers such as falling through fragile surfaces, drop through a hole / opening.

It is better to avoid situation such as these, but in workplace some of it are unavoidable. Therefore, it is important to do risk assessment by using the proper equipment in order to reduce such risk and refer to working platform regulation.

Having a proper safe work procedure for working at height, together with equipment such as safety harness and rope access when executing the task or having a working at height rescue plan prepared beforehand.

COMMON CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS WORKING AT HEIGHT IN MALAYSIA

In Malaysia, working at height hazards when comes to roof work where the risk are high. Roof works are the common causes for serious injuries and workplace death. In construction industry, factories of the roof, warehouses and office buildings where roof repair and maintenance are done in addition to working at height with scaffolding.

Fragile items in the roof such as roof lights, corroded metal sheets, rotten chipboard, wired glass, non-reinforced cement sheets are the few factors.

Fragile roof accidents can be prevented and reduce the risk through establishing working at height safety procedure.
